Yes. It makes a big difference if I have only one weapon (kingside attack) or two (attack + endgame technique). Learning endgames costs about the same effort as learning the chess game in the first place. It's a game in a game, really.
Since it takes at least a year to develop some endgame skills, only few people have taken the pains. It's far easier to talk about it as a good idea than to do it:) But if you want to get at some level, endgame training is unavoidable.
