Midlife crisis

.
.
Begin this year I reached the age of 50. As you might know that is the age where every selfrespecting man will start to exercise his midlife crisis. It's the age where you make up the balance of your life. If you are egoistic you ask yourself if you have gotten enough out of your life. Since the answer is probably no you leave your wife and get a younger woman. Or a sportscar. If you are religeous then you realize that you haven't done enough for your salvation and start to do charitative work. You start to ask yourself if you are not wasting your time.
And so I started with geology.

  1. Blue,
Don't worry, I will not be able to forget my old flame. For the simple reason that in september a new clubseason begins. At the same time it feels good to have a break.

The problem is that I'm a thinker. So when I think that I'm able to improve by following a method I no longer feel the urge to actually do it. Since I have already proven my case, so why bother? In the mean time that isn't an attitude that brings you very far in life. Or in chess.

  2. Pawn,

not quite. If you look at the graphics of the climate temperature which actually manifested itself in the past then you would probably guess by extrapolation that temperature is dropping. Only by adding insufficient-proven-models-based predictions to the graph you are invited to see it otherwise.

There will come a day people will collect money to maintain the hole in the ozone layer, mark my words!

  4. Dear Tempo,

Besides our love of chess, we also appear to share an appreciation of Salomon Kroonenberg.

  5. Great powers of thinking are useful, but to do you need will. Bet Magriet is relieved your mid-life crisis is leading you to rocks, not a new girlfriend.

    Regards,

  7. If you're married and seek happiness in life, it's been my experience that the study of geology (shiny, well-cut rocks) is more valuable than that of ELO. Hope you're faring well and look forward to your return to the chess scene.
