Checkmate ends the game

Today I stumbled upon a game that might be the reason for the following citation:

“Modern Chess is too much concerned with things like Pawn structure. Forget it, Checkmate ends the game.” — Nigel Short

  1. Somehow the PGN viewer has changed the position of the sidebar.

Well, I don't use that anyway for daily use. Expect to see differences in the blog layout overtime, since I'm experimenting. Comments about the layout are welcome. I don't know how it looks on your screens anyway. I use windows and chrome. I need to know when I screwed things up for you and made it unusable.

  2. The pgn viewer works well. The page is now very bright, with a lot of white space and the main part of the post is centred and only takes up about 45% of the screen

    1. I had an old layout template which isn't maintained by Blogger any longer. The Chessbase gadget screwed it up, so I can't go back anyway.

I have not found a way to adjust the column width. It seems not to be possible. I assume that the new layout template is developed for a variety of different screens like smartphones, tablets and the like. So I'm inclined to accept it.

Personally I like the shortened posts on the front page, which give more overview. Maybe I'm going to play with the colors a bit.

  3. Several things no longer there: traversing backwards/forwards from the current page, searching, archives, links to other Knights Errant, etc. I'm guessing that this post is just a trial at using the new format and the PGN viewer?

    1. It is some sort of trial. But can't go back due to my outdated layout which is no longer maintained. But at the highest level, the archives and the search are still there. And at the bottom you can ask for more pages.

  4. Just found the back arrow (<-) to get back to the home/current page; I was looking at the bottom of the page for an explicit "Home" button.

    1. The "Menu" (three horizontal bars on the upper left at the top of the page) gets to the Archives and Blog List. Still didn't see the Search bar.

    2. on top right you find a magnifying glass. I'm looking to install the search in the sidebar too
